A lucky Milwaukee teenager recently went on a shopping spree of a lifetime with $750 worth of gift cards from Kohl’s. Loren Muwonge, who graduated with an impressive 4.0 GPA after almost failing, believes that her story of triumph should not be an exceptional one.

The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee recently recognized Muwonge as the Youth of the Year.

According to Andre Douglas from the Boys and Girls Club, Muwonge represents all that is good and admirable about Milwaukee.

Muwonge’s future is considered bright by those who know her well.

According to Douglas, her future holds whatever she desires.

According to Muwonge, his journey has had its fair share of challenges.

Muwonge shared that his mother had passed away just over a year ago, and he had to take a month off from school. He was unsure of where to go or how to turn his grades around to graduate on time. However, speaking with his counselors gave him the direction he needed to move forward. “I didn’t know where I was gonna go, how I was going to go from failing to really just graduating on time. And speaking with my counselors, I really feel like they gave me the sense of direction I needed,” he said.

She has overcome a year of challenges and is now embarking on a new journey at Spelman College, fully funded. This noteworthy accomplishment was recognized and celebrated by The Boys and Girls Club, in collaboration with Kohl’s.

Muwonge expressed her gratitude, saying, “It means so much to me to be here without having to worry about dorm supplies, knowing that’s covered.”

The support of those around her has given Muwonge a sense of hope for the future.

Muwonge expressed her gratitude for the progress she has made in the past year. “I went from having no direction to inspiring others with my story and now I am on my way to my dream school,” she shared.

She desires that others will also have the same hope.

Muwonge expressed her desire to create a legacy for young girls who share her appearance. She wants to show them that it is feasible to attend an institution that promotes black excellence.
