Mason City School Board hires new curriculum director, plans for graduation at Mason City Arena
MASON CITY — The Mason City School Board last night without discussion approved a recommendation for hiring the district’s new director of curriculum and instruction.
Bridgette Wagoner is currently the director of educational services in the Waverly-Shell Rock Community School District. She’s a University of Northern Iowa graduate where she earned her bachelor’s degree in teaching English and her master’s degree in educational psychology.
She served as a teacher and professional development and curriculum coordinator for the Price Laboratory School-Northern University High School in Cedar Falls for 10 years before spending her last 10 years with the Waverly-Shell Rock district.
Wagoner’s contract calls for an annual salary of $121,940 plus benefits. She’ll start her new job on July 1st.
=== The board last night was also informed by Superintendent Dave Versteeg that graduation ceremonies for Mason City High School in June will be held off-campus in the downtown arena.
He says, “We’ve determined that we just because of construction around the high school and the gym area, and parking, we’d be just better off going downtown and trying out that new building. So we’re excited about being able to do that.”
Versteeg says using the facility will not cost the school district any money. “We’re bartering the cost. We charge them for certain things, they want to charge us, so we’re going to work out a cost neutral proposal between the two of us for that facility for that date, so we’re looking forward to that.”
Commencement ceremonies are scheduled for June 6th.
