Mason City School Board approves district’s FY 2022 budget

MASON CITY — The Mason City School Board last night approved the school district’s budget for the fiscal year that starts on July 1st.

The district’s portion of your tax bill will be rising from $14.17 per $1000 assessed valuation to nearly $17 per $1000. One of the biggest reasons for the rise is that the district is levying back the cash for a deficit in special education programming. A loss in total enrollment of 130 students has also had an impact on the district’s finances since the state’s funding formula is based on enrollment.

The board held a public hearing last night about the budget, but no one from the public or on the board made any comments.
