Mason City Republican announces run for Iowa House seat

MASON CITY — A Mason City Republican has announced he’s seeking a seat in the Iowa House. Christian Hermanson will be retiring from the United States Air Force this spring after 29 years of service.

A north-central Iowa native, Hermanson is currently assigned as a reserve senior leader with the US European Command in Stuttgart, Germany and will retire at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. In his civilian career, Hermanson works in property management and has previously served as a police officer with the Department of Veterans Affairs in Minneapolis.

Hermanson is running for the Republican nomination for House District 59, which includes all of Mason City as well as the communities and surrounding areas of Plymouth, Rock Falls, Dougherty, Rockwell and Swaledale.

Incumbent Democrat Sharon Steckman of Mason City announced last month that she would not be seeking another term for the seat.
