Mason City Public Library starts first phase of reopening on Tuesday

MASON CITY — The Mason City Public Library is starting a phased-in approach to reopening starting tomorrow.

Library Director Mary Markwalter says the first phase of the plan starts with opening the library at 10:00 AM Tuesday, and until further notice the library will only accept materials from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week. You are asked to enter the circle drive and place the items in the receptacles along the sidewalk. Donated items will not be accepted.

The library will continue to offer a number of digital services through the library’s website, mcpl.org, such as magazines, e-books, audio books, movies, television shows, music and children’s Tumble Books. The library will also offer free wi-fi outside of the building and into the parking lot. There is no password needed to use the wi-fi.

Markwalter says the library understands many community members feel stressed and worried about the threat of COVID-19, and the library staff will do what it takes to remove any library stresses from that list. No fines will be charged for overdue items while the library is closed.
