Mason City police say preliminary investigation concluded into shots being fired in North Ohio Avenue neighborhood

MASON CITY — The Mason City Police Department has concluded their preliminary investigation into the report of shots being fired on Tuesday afternoon in the zero block of North Ohio Avenue, which led authorities to issue a shelter in place order for the area.

Police Chief Jeff Brinkley says a search warrant was served at 19 North Ohio after multiple shots fired calls shortly before 12:50 PM. He says during that search, officers seized several items of evidence, including two stolen shotguns taken during a burglary in a bordering county.

During the initial response and investigation, 20-year-old Casey Cole of Mason City was arrested on a charge of interference with official acts. Brinkley says no other charges have been filed at this time.

He says following an inspection, the occupancy permit for the residence was revoked due to the living conditions and dilapidation of the property.

The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with information about the investigation should contact the Mason City Police Department at 641-421-3636.
