Mason City police ask for help as they investigate shooting in 300 block of 1st Southwest

MASON CITY — Mason City police are asking for the public’s help as they investigate a shooting incident from earlier in the week.

Police Chief Jeff Brinkley says shortly before 12:45 Monday afternoon, police responded to a report of a shooting and person needing medical attention in the area of 1st and South Monroe, with the first arriving officer locating a male who had sustained two gunshot wounds. The victim was transported by ambulance to MercyOne North Iowa for further treatment.

The investigation showed that the shooting took place in the 300 block of 1st Southwest, with officers being able to collect evidence and get statements from witnesses who were in the area at the time. Brinkley says there’s no ongoing threat to the public at this time and that the shooting remains under investigation.
