Kamala Harris endorsed by Wisconsin Democrats following Biden’s withdrawal

Wisconsin Democratic leaders, who are set to serve as delegates to the Democratic National Convention, have released statements applauding President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the presidential race. In their statements, they not only praised Biden but also endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.

Harris received endorsements from all the Democrats who represent Wisconsin in the U.S. House and Senate.

In a statement, U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) announced her endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for President of the United States. Baldwin expressed her pride in endorsing Harris and sees her candidacy as a fresh start for the party and the country. She eagerly anticipates collaborating with Harris to reduce expenses for Wisconsin families, boost the Made in America economy, and reinstate our basic rights and freedoms.

Representatives Mark Pocan and Gwen Moore from Wisconsin have both released statements endorsing Harris.

In a statement, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson expressed his commitment to supporting the Democratic Party’s presidential ticket. As someone who played a role in bringing the Republican National Convention to his city and will serve as a delegate at the upcoming Democratic National Convention, Johnson emphasized his dedication to the cause. He stated that he will be redirecting his energy towards ensuring the election of Kamala Harris as the next President of the United States, after having worked hard to support President Joe Biden.

In an exciting moment at the Democratic National Convention, Wisconsin State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski, who is also a delegate, shared a photo on social media of herself with Kamala Harris and expressed her enthusiasm for breaking the presidential glass ceiling. “Let’s go @KamalaHarris! Fired up to break that presidential glass ceiling! #Forward,” Godlewski wrote.

In a statement released by Wisconsin Democratic Party Chair, Ben Wikler, he lauded Biden, regarding him as one of America’s greatest presidents who dedicated his entire life to serving the nation. Wikler emphasized the significance of defeating MAGA extremism and emerging victorious in the battle for America’s soul. However, he refrained from endorsing Harris.

Governor Tony Evers also commended Biden for his efforts, according to a statement, but refrained from endorsing Harris.

According to Evers, regardless of President Biden’s decision, the upcoming election remains a clear choice. Donald Trump, he claims, has aspirations of becoming a dictator on the first day of his presidency. Evers acknowledges that there is much work to be done in the coming days, but he and Wisconsin Democrats are committed to putting in the effort to defeat Trump in the next 107 days.

In preparation for the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Chicago on August 19-22, Wisconsin has selected 95 delegates and seven alternates to attend. With Joe Biden’s recent endorsement of Kamala Harris for vice president, it’s possible that some of the delegates originally pledged to support him may switch their vote to Harris. However, it’s important to note that these delegates are not required to vote for Harris just because they were released from their pledge to support Biden.

In Chicago, Harris has made a strong commitment to fighting for every delegate vote.

The state of Wisconsin is one of the few closely contested swing states that will play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the 2024 presidential election.
