Investigation continues into officer-involved shooting in Mason City early Sunday morning

MASON CITY — The investigation continues into an officer-involved shooting in Mason City over the weekend.

Mason City Police Chief Jeff Brinkley says his department responded to a fight with shots fired call near the intersection of State and Federal shortly before 1:15 Sunday morning. When an officer arrived, they found several people fleeing the area, with an officer-involved shooting taking place at that time.

Brinkley says the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has been called in to complete the investigation of the original shooting incident and the officer-involved shooting, with the officer involved in the shooting being placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

The Mason City Police Department was assisted by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department, Iowa State Patrol, Clear Lake Police Department, and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department.
