MASON CITY — Newman tries to keep their playoff hopes alive as they host West Fork tonight in a Class A District 2 contest. North Butler and West Hancock hold the top of the district standings with 4-0 district records, while Newman, North Union, Lake Mills and St. Ansgar each have two district wins heading into the final two weeks of regular season play, with the top four teams in the district qualifying for the post-season. West Fork is 0-5 in the district and 0-6 overall coming into tonight’s contest. CRESCO — Clear Lake would guarantee themselves a top two finish in the district and a home playoff game in the first round if they win their Class 2A District 3 contest at Crestwood tonight. Lions head coach Jared DeVries says despite the Cadets being a 1-5 team, they’ll have to face a challenging rushing game.

WAVERLY — Mason City travels to 7th-ranked Waverly-Shell Rock in a Class 4A District 2 contest. Mohawk coach John Lee says he’s going to rely on his team’s speed to challenge the Go-Hawks.

DES MOINES — Regional volleyball pairings were released on Thursday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union:

== In Class 4A Region 7, Mason City will host Charles City in a regional quarterfinal on October 19th. The winner will face #12 Decorah in the regional semifinal with top-ranked Western Dubuque being on the other side of the bracket.

== In Class 3A Region 2, Clear Lake travels to Forest City in a regional quarterfinal on October 18th. The highest seed in this bracket is 5th-ranked Sheldon

== In Class 1A Region 4, Newman will travel to North Butler in a regional first round contest on October 18th. 9th-ranked Janesville is in Newman’s portion of the bracket, while 7th-ranked Newell-Fonda is on the other side of the bracket.
