CLEAR LAKE — 2nd-ranked Clear Lake and 8th-ranked Iowa Falls-Alden match up in the Class 2A District 3 championship game tonight at Lions Field in Clear Lake. The Lions are 4-0 in the district and face a Cadet team that has won three straight games after losing their district opener against Crestwood. The Lions were edged out of an at-large playoff spot last year, but Clear Lake coach Jared DeVries says that’s not on his team’s mind heading into this key game.

DeVries says the running back tandem of Karson Sharar and Kyler Hadwiger will be the focus of the Lions defense.

You can hear the Clear Lake/Iowa Falls-Alden game tonight on AM-1490 & 96.7-FM KRIB and kribam.com starting with the pre-game at 6:45, with kickoff from Lions Field scheduled for 7:30.

MASON CITY — The Mason City High football team will try to wrap up their season with a win tonight as they host Ottumwa. The Mohawks are 0-8 on the season and face an Ottumwa team that’s 2-6 overall and 1-3 in the district after edging Des Moines East last week. Mason City coach Brandon Krusey says he’s told his team to treat tonight as a one-game season and try to finish out on top.

Krusey wants his club to play their best football of the season for a couple of different reasons.

You can hear the Mason City-Ottumwa game on AM-1300 KGLO and kgloam.com starting with the pre-game at about 7 o’clock, with kickoff from Mohawk Field scheduled for 7:30.

MASON CITY — Newman closes out the season hosting South Winneshiek. The Knights have lost three straight, including a 57-0 loss at 2nd-ranked St. Ansgar last week. It’s an important game for South Winn, as they sit in second place in the district at 4-1, and with an RPI index of 13, they are hoping to work their way into the playoffs as a wild card. You can hear the Newman-South Winn game on 93.9 KIA The Country Moose starting with the pre-game at 6:45 with kickoff slated for 7 o’clock.
