MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Jose Berrios pitched a six-hitter for his second complete game this season, and the Minnesota Twins hit three home runs against James Shields in a 7-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Berrios retired his first 14 batters before Omar Narvarez’s double. Eduardo Escobar, Ehire Adrianza (AY-ray ah-dree-AHN-zuh) and Eddie Rosario homered against Shields, who has not won in 12 starts since opening day.



MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have reinstated right-handed pitcher Trevor May from the disabled list and assigned him to Triple-A, almost 15 months after Tommy John elbow surgery. May had the ligament replacement procedure on March 22, 2017, after suffering the injury in a spring training game. He has posted a 5.50 ERA in 18 innings with 12 walks and 20 strikeouts in six rehab appearances between Class A and Triple-A, including four starts.

MASON CITY – NIACC sophomore Morgan Thesing-Ritter has been selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association NJCAA Division II all-American team. Thesing-Ritter was a second-team outfield selection.

Thesing-Ritter, a sophomore from Eau Claire, Wis., hit .451 (74 hits) with eight home runs, seven triples and seven doubles for the Lady Trojans, who were 19-30 under first-year coach Dan Gratz. Thesing-Ritter also had 46 stolen bases and 43 RBIs in her sophomore campaign.

Thesing-Ritter, who was a first-team NFCA Midwest all-region selection, is NIACC’s career leader in hits (156), stolen bases (86) and runs scored (106). She also ranks second in career batting average (.471), triples (12) and at-bats (331).

Thesing-Ritter is the first Lady Trojan to earn NFCA all-American honors since outfielder Kendall Cornick was a first-team pick in 2016.

Thesing-Ritter was one of 12 ICCAC players to be selected on the two all-American teams.



DES MOINES — The Champions Tour returns to Des Moines with Friday’s first round of the Principal Charity Classic at the Wakonda Club. Two-time Masters Champion Bernhard Langer is one of the yearly favorites but last year’s fourth place finish was his only top five finish at the tournament. He says the key is handing the sloping nature of the Wakonda course.

Brant Jobe finished at 14-under to win the tournament in 2017 but says his goal coming in is not to defend his title.

The winner on Sunday will pocket 262 thousand 500 dollars from a more than 1.7 million dollar purse.



DES MOINES — Des Moines is preparing to host the country’s top track and field meet when the USA Outdoor Championships are held June 21 through the 24. It will be the third time Drake Stadium has hosted the event since 2010.

Thar’s Drake Relays Director Blake Boldon who says it is one of the top track and field venues in the country.

Boldon says Drake Stadium was recently named one of the top five track and field venues.

Boldon says hosting the U-S Championships is a plus for the entire area.



WASHINGTON (AP) — Sylvia Fowles had 21 points and 12 rebounds, Maya Moore added 19 points and the Minnesota Lynx snapped a four-game losing streak with an 88-80 victory over the Washington Mystics. Seimone Augustus added 16 points for Minnesota. She passed Katie Douglas and DeLisha Milton-Jones for 11th on the WNBA scoring list with 5,573 points.
