DES MOINES — The number of active COVID-19 cases in our listening area rose by more than 300 over the weekend as four more people locally have died.
In the period between midday Friday and midday Sunday, 413 more COVID-19 cases were identified in the listening area while 114 people have recovered. Three of the four deaths happened in Cerro Gordo County while the other was in Kossuth County. That brings the total number of deaths in the listening area since the start of the pandemic to 120, with 41 of those happening in Cerro Gordo County.
The number of active cases locally increased from 4943 on Friday to 5248 at midday Sunday, with 1837 of those cases in Cerro Gordo County.
98 people are hospitalized as of this morning in the north-central Iowa medical region, up from 96 yesterday. 11 are in an intensive care unit with eight being on a ventilator.
In the same 48-hour period over the weekend ending at midday Sunday, 65 more people have died in Iowa with 7487 new cases being identified.
