According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, 89 individuals have been prosecuted for COVID-19 fraud in the Middle District of Florida thus far.

The attempted fraud of over $84.5 million was made by those individuals against the government.

The release states that 67 individuals have been convicted while the prosecution of the remaining 22 is still pending.

According to a recent release, the teams have successfully accomplished the forfeiture of $20 million that was acquired fraudulently. Furthermore, they have seized over $18 million in extra pandemic fraud proceeds, which are currently awaiting civil or criminal forfeiture.

According to a release from U.S. Attorney Roger Handberg, the Middle District of Florida United States Attorney’s Office remains committed to pursuing, investigating, prosecuting, and retrieving funds from individuals who participated in fraudulent schemes aimed at stealing benefits meant for Americans struggling with the various effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
