Clear Lake council tonight to hold public hearing on “max levy” for FY 2024 budget

CLEAR LAKE — The Clear Lake City Council tonight will hold the public hearing to establish the maximum property tax dollars for the Fiscal Year 2024 budget that starts on July 1st.

The proposed “max levy” for the budget is $9.15842 per $1000 assessed valuation, slightly lower than the current levy of $9.15998 per $1000.

City Administrator Scott Flory says while the “max levy” will be addressed tonight, the city will continue to delay finalizing its budget for the next fiscal year, uncertain of final property tax revenues, which constitute a significant portion of the city’s revenues. Cities and counties have been dealing with an error in the formula that determines some property tax rates.

The council meets tonight at 6 o’clock at City Hall.
