Clear Lake business damaged by fire

CLEAR LAKE — Firefighters from Clear Lake and Ventura battled a structure fire earlier this morning in eastern Clear Lake.

The Clear Lake Fire Department was called shortly before 5:40 AM to Lake Towing at 609 North 40th Street, where on arrival observed smoke coming from the eaves of a 40-by-100 foot wood-framed, steel-clad shop building.

Business owner Todd Hanson discovered the fire after returning from plowing snow. Hanson attempted to extinguish the fire with portable fire extinguishers prior to notifying the fire department.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the attic space of the building with some damage to the rafters, steel siding, and roof. Damage to the building is estimated at $25,000.

Nobody was injured and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
