MASON CITY — Add Cerro Gordo County to the list of local governments voicing their displeasure with Alliant Energy’s proposed rate increase. The Board of Supervisors this morning passed a resolution opposing Alliant’s rate hike proposal.
Supervisor Chris Watts spoke in favor of the resolution. “This is being done in cooperation with other local governments in North Iowa, taking a stance against Alliant Energy’s huge rate increase ask. We have several other counties and several municipalities in North Iowa that are coming together to do the same thing as the City of Mason City and Cerro Gordo County has.”
The Mason City City Council passed a similar resolution back at their January 16th meeting.
If approved as proposed, it would result in about a 9% increase to the average electric customer’s total bill this October and a second phase increase of about 7% beginning in October 2025.
