Brandon Council, spared from death by Biden, seeks release from prison

A convicted murderer, who was spared the death penalty by President Biden, is now requesting to be released from prison, claiming that the conditions are unbearable.

Brandon Council, 38, the perpetrator who took the lives of two hardworking mothers at a bank, has recently filed a motion asserting that the Indiana federal prison he is currently housed in is among the most deplorable facilities globally. Council further claims that his prolonged isolation in solitary confinement has amounted to unlawful torture.

The convicted double-murderer claims that he has experienced “severe, unnecessary, and unjustifiable psychological harm” at FCI Terre Haute since his sentencing in 2019. He believes that he deserves “compassionate release.”

According to the Daily Mail, Council claimed that the conditions can only be accurately construed and assimilated as an act of torture.

In his motion, the killer con argued that the conditions he has been subjected to violate his constitutional rights. He claimed that these conditions amount to “torture” and he should therefore be released.

Just days after Biden controversially commuted the death sentences of Council and 36 other Death Row inmates on December 23, a demand for action has emerged.

The president’s action resulted in a reduction of their sentences from execution to life in prison.

In 2019, Council received the death sentence for the brutal murders of two South Carolina bank employees and mothers, Donna Major (59) and Kathryn Skeen (36), during a violent robbery in 2017.

He stole $15,000 in cash and took the keys to both of his victims’ cars.

President Biden, despite his opposition to the death penalty, acknowledged the despicable acts committed by Council and the other Death Row inmates as he granted them leniency.

Only three individuals – Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Boston Marathon bomber, Robert Bowers, the Pittsburgh synagogue shooter, and Dylann Roof, the Charleston church shooter – are currently on Death Row as a result of their actions.

Trump, in response to Biden’s decision, pledged to aggressively pursue the death penalty once he assumes office on January 20th.

Council has made previous attempts to modify his sentence on similar grounds in the past.

According to WMBF, Council has filed motions at least three times, in 2019, 2022, and 2023, requesting to be removed from solitary confinement. They claimed that the treatment was equivalent to torture and therefore unlawful.

According to the outlet, every request has been denied.

Compassionate releases are usually employed for patients who are disabled or severely ill.

The family of Majors expressed their disappointment with Biden’s decision, stating that the president did not consult with them to gauge their sentiments.

“I’m still furious. It’s incredibly upsetting that this is even taking place, that a single individual can make such a decision without even consulting the victims, without any consideration for the pain, suffering, and anger we have experienced and continue to endure,” expressed Heather Turner, the daughter of Major, during an interview with Fox & Friends.

Danny Jenkins, the husband of Major, expressed his grief over the merciless killing of his wife.
