Arrest made after Clear Lake Main Street USA damaged earlier this month

CLEAR LAKE — A Nora Springs man has been charged with damaging the “Main Street USA” sign in downtown Clear Lake.

Police Chief Pete Roth says 21-year-old Matthew Arthur has been charged with fifth-degree criminal mischief. The sign at the corner of North 8th Street and Main Avenue was damaged in the early morning hours of July 3rd and was captured on security cameras at City Hall.

The video was posted on the Clear Lake Police Department’s Facebook page and investigators were able to locate the vehicle that Arthur got into to leave the scene and were able to identify him.

Fifth-degree criminal mischief is a simple misdemeanor. If Arthur is found guilty of the charge, he would face up to 30 days in jail, a $625 fine, or both.
