Much-needed rain is providing relief from the recent drought-like conditions across the state, as experts report a significant drop in fire risks.
Over the weekend, state foresters recorded 15 fires across the state, an unusually high number for this time of year. State fire analysts believe that the rain this week will help alleviate the dry conditions and reduce the risk of future wildfires. Currently, there are no fire restrictions in place, thanks to the higher humidity and cloud cover.
“We’re hopeful that this upcoming rain will put us in a much better position, significantly reducing our drought levels. The forecast calls for two to four inches of rain, and the closer we get to four inches, the better,” said State Fire Analyst Ethan Barrett.
The 15 fires reported over the weekend burned an estimated 240 acres.
