Five individuals sustained injuries in an early morning wrong-way collision in Boone County on Wednesday.

Around 3:15 a.m., a 20-year-old man from Grandview was driving a 2013 Nissan Murano on the wrong side of the road on I-70, just east of the 115.8 mile marker.

The Nissan collided with an eastbound 2012 Toyota Camry and a 2019 Acura RDX. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported this incident.

The driver of the Nissan and two passengers were injured in the accident. The driver, a 25-year-old man from Grandview, sustained serious injuries, while a 28-year-old man from an unknown location suffered moderate injuries.

In the other vehicle, a Toyota, the driver, a 27-year-old man from San Diego, Calif., and his passenger, a 21-year-old female from Fort Benning, Ga., both had minor injuries.

The MU University Hospital in Columbia transported all the injured individuals.

The Acura suffered significant damage, while the Camry and Murano were completely destroyed. All three cars had to be towed away.

Jordan A. Bell-Shields, a 20-year-old, was taken into custody and faced multiple charges. These included driving while intoxicated, not wearing a seat belt, driving without insurance, and engaging in careless and imprudent driving that resulted in a crash.
