A powerful cold front is set to sweep through Southeast Texas over the weekend, ushering in severe weather and freezing temperatures in the coming days. Showers and thunderstorms are anticipated to develop on Sunday morning and persist into the afternoon, posing a severe storm threat to areas along I-45 and north of I-10.

The National Weather Service warns that there is a possibility of isolated storms on Sunday, which could bring about damaging winds and hail. It is advised that residents stay informed about the weather forecast and make sure they have multiple means of receiving emergency weather alerts.

Following the storms, the region will experience a significant drop in temperatures as Arctic air moves in. Starting from Monday night, the lows will fall below freezing, and there is a possibility of widespread frost. Forecasts indicate that these sub-freezing temperatures will continue for multiple nights, posing a potential threat to delicate plants and pipes.

The weather will continue to be mild on Friday and Saturday, with temperatures reaching around 75 degrees. There is a possibility of fog on Friday morning, while Saturday is expected to have partly cloudy skies. However, Sunday will bring significant weather changes as a front approaches, with a high chance of rain exceeding 70%.

Prepare for both the storm and cold by protecting outdoor plants and bringing pets indoors. It is also important to inspect pipes and vehicles for winter readiness.

To ensure road safety, especially on busy highways like I-45, it is advisable for drivers to refrain from traveling during severe rain or freezing weather. Stay informed about the latest weather conditions by visiting the National Weather Service website.
