Fort Deposit Youths Apprehended For Montgomery Murder

Lowndes County Sheriff’s investigators detained two Fort Deposit juveniles on Saturday in connection with a Montgomery homicide.

Sheriff Chris West announced the arrests on July 20, after investigators apprehended two 16-year-old black youths wanted for the July 18 murder of a Hispanic male in West Montgomery. According to Investigator Randell Johnson, a team of investigators were arrested Saturday afternoon.

The Montgomery County Detention Facility is holding the two without bond on capital murder charges. Johnson predicted that the courts would likely try them as adults.

“The young men were involved in a murder at a new gas station, the new QT on West South Boulevard in Montgomery,” according to Johnson. “They allegedly killed a 21-year-old Hispanic male who was sitting in a car.”

On Friday, Central Alabama Crime Stoppers issued a BOLO (be on the lookout) after the suspects reportedly shot and killed Hector Bamaca Yoc in the 1000 block of West South Boulevard. Johnson recognized the children and contacted Crimestoppers, who connected him with the Montgomery Police Department investigator handling the case.

According to Johnson, Fort Deposit Police Chief Terry Steiner received a call from a family member with information on the whereabouts of one of the suspects.

“I got our team together, and we went and picked up one of the boys,” Johnson told the crowd. “The other juvenile’s mom heard we were looking for him, so she turned him in to the police department.”

Around 12:45 a.m. Thursday, MPD and Fire Medics responded to a call regarding the incident. When responders arrived, they discovered that the victim had already died from gunshot wounds.

Crimestoppers reported that the two perpetrators fled on foot, and MPD investigators released photos of the suspects, who officials claim attempted to rob the victim before shooting and killing him.

Please contact the Montgomery Police Department’s investigative unit at (334) 625-2832 or (334) 625-2831 if you have any information on the case.
