Two individuals lost their lives on Monday morning in Kansas City when they were struck by a street racer, according to the Kansas City Police Department.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:25 a.m. on December 30th, on Wornall Road, in close proximity to I-435.

Authorities suspect that two vehicles, specifically a black Chrysler 300 and a silver Dodge Charger, were engaged in a street race heading south on Wornall Road from 99th Street. Meanwhile, a silver Honda HRV traveling north on Wornall Road was making a left turn onto Carondolet Drive.

A tragic accident occurred when a speeding Chrysler collided with a Honda, resulting in the unfortunate deaths of the driver and passenger.

Authorities have confirmed that both individuals were adults. The driver of the Chrysler sustained injuries and was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Thankfully, it is anticipated that they will recover from their injuries.

On Monday night, a utility pole that had been knocked down was being replaced. A nearby photograph captured the moment when the pole was broken and then carried several feet while still standing.

A KCPD spokesperson stated that detectives are collaborating with prosecutors to ascertain if charges can be filed against the drivers of the two vehicles involved in the race.

The Kansas City Police Department has reported that the recent deaths of the victims mark the 96th and 97th crash fatalities of the year 2024.
