The search for an 8-year-old girl is ongoing as search and rescue teams tirelessly comb through the area. The incident occurred when a car hydroplaned off U.S. 75 and plunged into Post Oak Creek.

On Tuesday morning, the car crash near U.S. 75 and Taylor Street prompted a swift response from the Sherman Police Department and Sherman Fire-Rescue.

According to a statement from Sherman PD, a vehicle veered off U.S. 75 and got stuck in a drainage ditch of Post Oak Creek around 9:30 a.m.

The vehicle then proceeded to move down the creek towards Houston Street until first responders were able to reach them near Highway 56.

According to the police, four out of the six passengers in the vehicle were successfully rescued by first responders. Unfortunately, one body was recovered several hours later.

Currently, two individuals are still receiving treatment in the hospital, while two others have been discharged. Thankfully, it is expected that all the passengers will survive.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has given the go-ahead for state search and rescue teams to join the ongoing search efforts for the 8-year-old girl who is still missing. Throughout the night, crews tirelessly continued their search for the young girl.

In a message sent on Wednesday night, the Sherman police expressed their gratitude to the public for the support they have received. They specifically mentioned that they do not require any more volunteers or provisions of snacks and beverages for the first responders.

The message stated:

During times of crisis, we are fortunate to have a community that is eager to lend a hand in any way possible. Our search efforts have been bolstered by the participation of numerous highly trained first responders who specialize in navigating hazardous conditions. At this moment, we do not require any additional volunteers.

“Sherman, we truly appreciate your unwavering kindness in various ways – such as your continuous desire to provide us with snacks and beverages. However, at this moment, we kindly request that you refrain from donating any additional items. It takes effort for us to process these donations, and currently, our sole focus is on locating this 8-year-old girl.”

The police have not released the identities of the passengers. However, it has been confirmed that they were traveling from Southern Oklahoma to McKinney.
