Storm Track 3 Forecast: Rain Showers and Foggy Conditions Early This Week

A front that passed overnight is now located to the southeast, accompanied by a low-pressure system tracking southward. These two weather features are expected to combine, leading to reduced visibility in areas east of the Turnpike through the overnight hours. Drizzle and light rain showers are also expected to form once the atmosphere becomes saturated.

Temperatures will remain above freezing, so no icy conditions are expected on the roads, particularly in areas further southeast. However, clouds will begin to break up in the north and west.

By Tuesday morning, thick fog will develop across Southcentral Nebraska and gradually move into northern areas. Visibility will also be reduced east of the Turnpike, closer to the Oklahoma state line. Temperatures tonight will range from the upper 20s to low 40s across the state.

The overcast skies may linger in the southeast until late on Christmas Eve, but the rest of Kansas will experience a mix of sun and clouds, with temperatures in the 40s and 50s on Tuesday. As temperatures cool Tuesday night, fog is expected to become more widespread, with areas near freezing, particularly on bridges and overpasses in northern and western Kansas.

Cloud cover will thicken on Christmas Day, and a storm system will bring drizzle and rain showers from Christmas night through Thursday, starting in the western counties and moving eastward. The rainfall is expected to be light. Another system could enhance rain showers from Friday into Saturday, although the moisture will be minimal.

Temperatures this week will remain near or above average, with further warming expected over the weekend, including temperatures reaching into the 60s on Sunday. Early next week, another storm system may develop, and details on its moisture, strength, and timing will be determined as the week progresses.
