Winter system expected to bring snow and wind tonight and tomorrow

A significant winter system is approaching from the northwest, bringing snow and increasing winds starting Wednesday evening. Starting from Wednesday evening (6pm) through Thursday afternoon, a Winter Storm Warning is now in effect.

This warning forecasts widespread snowfall accumulations of 3-6 inches, with isolated areas expected to receive 6-8 inches. Gusty winds accompanying the snowfall will lead to travel disruptions.

Although temperatures will rise slightly on Wednesday night into Thursday morning, they will only reach the teens, ensuring that the precipitation remains in the form of snow. Snowfall, heavy at times, will continue through Thursday morning.

As the day progresses, winds will intensify, gusting out of the northwest at speeds of 30-40 mph. These strong winds will result in blowing and drifting snow, making travel conditions hazardous.

Visibility may drop below 1/4 mile due to a combination of falling and blowing snow, potentially causing whiteout conditions.

Consequently, travel is expected to be very difficult, and hazardous road conditions may impact both the Thursday morning and evening commutes.

Friday is expected to be another cold day, with temperatures dropping below zero in most areas. The highs will only reach single digits, and the skies will be mostly cloudy. Additionally, there is a chance of light snow in the afternoon as another Alberta Clipper system moves through.

Although this system is not expected to have as much of an impact as the previous one, there is still a possibility of light accumulations.

On the weekend, light snow will taper off on Saturday morning, leaving behind cloudy conditions for the rest of the day. Morning temperatures will be cold, ranging from single digits below zero to just above zero. In the afternoon, temperatures will rise slightly into the teens.

Sunday will be warmer and a bit breezy, with morning lows in the teens and afternoon highs reaching the seasonal average in the 20s. The weekend will conclude with mostly cloudy skies.

On Monday, we can expect seasonably mild temperatures to continue for the holiday week. We will start the day with temperatures in the teens and low 20s, and they will warm up to the 20s to near 30. The weather will be mostly cloudy.

Get ready for a nice and mild holiday season! Christmas Eve is expected to be partly to mostly cloudy, with temperatures dropping to the teens to low 20s in the evening and reaching around 30 degrees during the day.

Santa and his reindeer will be pleased with the calm weather. As we move into Christmas Day and the start of Hanukkah, temperatures will be even warmer. Although there won’t be much sunshine, expect morning lows in the 20s and afternoon highs in the upper 20s to mid 30s.
