Expect Rain and Patchy Fog to Affect Early Week Commute in New York

New York City, NY — The day began with freezing temperatures across the northern and interior sections, but as Sunday progresses, clouds will start to gather in New York City. This is a precursor to a rainy and foggy start to the upcoming workweek.

The National Weather Service predicts that the rain on Monday will start during the night, with the most intense showers expected before 4 p.m. East winds will strengthen, reaching speeds of 10-16 mph, making it feel colder.

There may be patchy fog, especially before sunrise, which could make it difficult for commuters heading into the city to see clearly. Motorists on main highways like I-95 and I-87 should be cautious due to slippery roads and reduced visibility.

By Monday afternoon, temperatures are expected to reach around 50°F, providing a temporary relief from the early cold experienced on Sunday.

However, the presence of winds and damp conditions will make it feel cooler. As we move into Monday night, rain and dense fog will persist, causing hazardous road conditions that will extend into Tuesday morning.

The weather forecast for the upcoming week shows a combination of sunny and rainy days. Tuesday will see the clouds gradually clearing, and temperatures will rise to a pleasant 58°F. However, on Wednesday, we can expect another round of rain with a 50–80% chance of precipitation throughout the day and night.

Despite the rain, temperatures will remain within the seasonal range, reaching the mid-40s to low 50s during the day and dropping to cooler lows around 40°F at night.

Residents should make sure to dress warmly until Sunday and have umbrellas readily available for Monday. Additionally, it is recommended to allow for extra travel time due to the foggy and rainy conditions. Stay tuned for further updates and safety advisories as the weather continues to evolve.
