On Tuesday morning, a man was arrested by IMPD officers for firing a shot at someone, fleeing the scene, and barricading himself inside a home on the southeast side of Indianapolis.

According to officers, the incident took place at approximately 10 a.m. on July 9 in the 7200 block of East Raymond Street, which is situated near South Hunter Road.

According to IMPD Officer Amanda Hibschman, a victim was interviewed and a suspect was promptly identified. However, the suspect managed to escape from the officers on foot.

Using drones and SWAT, IMPD established a perimeter on Chesterhill Lane, which is located close to East Raymond Street and South Franklin Road.

Kate, a neighbor, recalls how she felt upon arriving home amidst the chaotic scene, stating “Everything was going on, and I locked my doors right away.” The presence of police officers scattered throughout the street made her feel uneasy and frightened. Despite her initial concerns, Kate was ultimately able to navigate her way home through the back entrance.

The incident has caused concern among the neighbors, who voiced their worries about it.

Kate expressed her fear and shock at the sight of over 20 cars and SWAT team members in her typically peaceful neighborhood. “It was very scary,” she recounted. “We have a quiet neighborhood, a very quiet neighborhood.”

The man was successfully convinced to leave the house with the assistance of IMPD.

Hibschman expressed relief that the suspect followed commands to surrender peacefully without any further incident, as they are instructed to do so when on a track. The suspect was given constant commands to surrender with their hands up, and fortunately, they complied.

No injuries have been reported and the police have not yet revealed the cause of the shooting.

The man’s initial charges have not yet been disclosed, and it will be up to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office to determine the final charges.

If you have any information related to this incident, please do not hesitate to contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477. Your cooperation can play a crucial role in solving the case.
