Additional information has come to light regarding the fatal three-car crash that resulted in the tragic passing of Khyree Jackson, a fourth-round NFL Draft pick for the Minnesota Vikings, in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, his hometown.

While traveling in the passenger seat of a maroon Dodge Charger near Route 4/Pennsylvania Avenue, the defensive back was heading northbound when Cori Clingman, a 23-year-old Infinity Q50 driver, attempted to change lanes at high speeds and collided with their vehicle. The investigators have pointed out that the crash may have been influenced by alcohol.

According to a statement released by Maryland State Police on July 6, a tragic accident occurred in Prince George’s County claiming the lives of three individuals. The investigation suggests that Clingman, the driver, was speeding and attempted to change lanes, resulting in a collision with a Dodge Charger and a Chevrolet Impala. The impact caused the Charger to veer off the road and collide with several tree stumps before coming to a stop. The authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the incident.

Emergency responders declared Jackson and Isaiah Hazel, both 23 years old, dead at the scene just north of Dower House Road. Another football standout, 24-year-old Anthony Lytton Jr., was transported to the nearby University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center but unfortunately passed away under medical supervision. Hazel and Lytton had impressive Division I careers at Charlotte and Penn State, respectively.

Forestville Barrack Troopers rushed to the scene of the accident at 3:14 a.m. on Saturday morning. According to TMZ, Ebbony, Jackson’s mother, received the heartbreaking news of the crash at 4 a.m.

During the accident, Clingman’s car had two passengers, while the Chevrolet Impala had only one occupant. Fortunately, all of them escaped the incident without any injuries. However, an investigation is currently underway, led by the Maryland State Police Crash Team, and criminal charges are pending.

On Saturday, a tragic incident occurred in Upper Marlboro, just five miles away from Jackson’s alma mater at Henry A. Wise Jr. High School. During his senior season, Jackson’s impressive 6’4 frame helped him secure 12 receiving touchdowns. The school expressed their condolences and mourned the loss of Khyree Jackson (State Champ 2016 c/o ’17), Anthony Lytton, Jr. (AJ) (State Champ 2015,16,17 c/o ’18), and Isaiah Hazel (State Champ 2015, 16, 17 c/o ’19) in a tweet on Saturday.

Jackson chose to start his career at the JUCO level, attending Western Arizona, Fort Scott, and East Mississippi, which was famously featured on Netflix’s “Last Chance U,” after receiving poor grades and forgoing the Division I route. Despite this setback, he went on to have an impressive FBS career. Jackson played a pivotal role in Alabama’s 2021 College Football Playoff title game run, appearing in 12 games. He continued to excel on Oregon’s defense during the past season, recording 35 tackles, three interceptions, and two sacks, which caught the attention of Minnesota in the fourth round.
