Illegal Baby Names: 8 Names You Can’t Use in Florida

Illegal Baby Names

Selecting a name for your newborn is a significant choice for parents. It’s an opportunity to showcase individuality and pick something distinctive. However, before you decide on a name like Majesty Messiah King III (which some have tried), remember that Florida has certain prohibitions that clearly state, “Absolutely not!”

Here’s a rundown of names that are off-limits and should be avoided.

Forbidden Baby Names

– Santa Claus – Convincing others that your child can deliver presents worldwide in one evening might be a stretch.
– King/Queen – While your child may hold a special place in your heart, they cannot bear an official title.
– Jesus Christ – This is non-negotiable. Naming your child after one of history’s most recognized figures isn’t looked upon favorably.
– Majesty – Even if you believe your child deserves the title of “Your Majesty,” the authorities have ruled out such royal designations.
– Adolf Hitler – Do we really need to elaborate? Just steer clear of it.
– III – Including numbers in names? Not allowed. This complicates matters and seems to confuse government computer systems.
– @ – While naming your child “@” might seem like a quirky nod to the digital age, officials do not consider this an acceptable name.

Understanding the Rationale Behind the Bans

Why does the government care about what you name your baby? Here’s a straightforward explanation:
– Technical Issues: Numbers and special characters disrupt formal record-keeping. If a name can’t be easily typed on a standard keyboard, it won’t make it onto a birth certificate.
– Child Welfare: Many people would prefer not to spend their lives clarifying unusual names like “King Supreme Leader” or “Adolf Hitler.” The aim is to shield children from potential shame, bullying, or other serious issues.

Final Thoughts

While choosing a name for your child can be an enjoyable experience, it shouldn’t create difficulties for them down the line. Perhaps consider using “Santa Claus” as a fun nickname instead.
