ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Wild rookie forward Luke Kunin is out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL in his left knee.
The Wild announced Monday that Kunin suffered the tear during Sunday’s 4-1 win at Detroit. He is expected to have surgery in the coming weeks and return to play in about seven months.
The 20-year-old was most recently recalled by the Wild on Feb. 27 and has recorded two goals and two assists in 19 games with Minnesota this season. He made his NHL debut against Columbus on Oct. 14 and recorded his first points at Calgary on Oct. 21.
Kunin scored his first goal on Oct. 26 against the New York Islanders, becoming the first player in team history to score his first career goal short-handed.
CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) — Minnesota Twins right-hander Ervin Santana left spring training for New York to have his injured middle finger examined. Santana, out until mid-to-late April following surgery on the finger, could have a cast removed. Santana went 16-8 with a 3.28 ERA in 33 starts last season for the Twins, who earned an AL wild-card berth one year after losing 103 games.
