Man arrested after standoff on Mason City's north side
|
|
MASON CITY --- A Mason City man charged with breaking into a synagogue and stealing sound equipment earlier this year is under arrest again, this time after a standoff on the city’s north side Thursday night. 39-year-old William O’Dell has been arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and domestic assault. Mason City police say in a news release that they received a report of a domestic situation in the 15-hundred block of North Madison. After further investigation, it was discovered that O’Dell, who is a convicted felon, was in possession of a firearm, which is illegal. Officers attempted to serve criminal citations but didn’t receive any response, with officers later determining that he had barricaded himself inside the house at 1514 North Madison. At around 8:30 PM, members of the North Central Iowa Narcotics Drug Task Force Special Operations Group and Iowa State Patrol negotiators made contact with O’Dell. O’Dell then surrendered without incident and was taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail where he remains on $5-thousand bond. O’Dell was also arrested in late June in connection with the June 5th break-in at the Adas Israel Synagogue and is charged with second-degree theft. O’Dell has pleaded not guilty to that charge and his trial on that charge is set for September 13th.

MASON CITY --- Police have arrested three people in connection with the murder of a Mason City man at a convenience store on the city’s north side yesterday afternoon. Police Chief Michael Lashbrook says they’ve arrested 31-year-old Jamaal Leslie and charged him with first-degree murder. Leslie is accused by police of shooting 27-year-old Brandon Crawford after a brief argument near the Casey’s at 813 North Federal. Crawford was taken to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa where he was later pronounced dead. In addition to the murder charge against Leslie, police have filed charges against 24-year-old Winsdell Lamb and 46-year-old Donya Lee, as being Accessories After the Fact, an aggravated misdemeanor. Lamb and Lee are alleged to have been involved in trying to withhold information related to the investigation. Both have been arrested and are currently in the Cerro Gordo County Jail. The investigation into the murder of Crawford continues, and if anyone has more information regarding the incident, they are asked to contact Mason City Police at 421-36

Shooting investigation continues, one man dead

Mason City police are investigating a shooting incident at a convenience store that’s left one man dead. Police Chief Michael Lashbrook says in a statement to KGLO News that they were called to the Casey’s General Store at 813 North Federal at around 5 o’clock Tuesday evening. Upon arrival they discovered a person lying in the parking lot. Preliminary investigation indicated that the downed person had suffered from at least one gunshot wound and was transported to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, where he was later pronounced dead. The name of the victim is being withheld at this time pending the notification of the next of kin. Additional information received by officers on the scene has led to the detention of one individual as a person of interest in the case. Lashbrook says anybody else having information about the incident to please contact the Mason City Police Department’s Criminal Investigative Division at 421-3636. Lashbrook adds that the investigation is still in the early stages and more information should be available on Wednesday morning. He says in response to concerns by persons living in the area, the Police Department will begin conducting saturation patrols. Citizens are encouraged to contact police for any suspicious activity or concerns of safety. Mason City police are being assisted by the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department, the Iowa State Patrol and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
