UPDATE --- CRC pool remains closed until investigation completed
Breaking News OSAGE --- Officials say the investigation continues into the death of a two-year-old child who drowned in the swimming pool at the Cedar River Complex in Osage Sunday. Family members Monday morning said the victim was Ryan Detmering of Fort Dodge, who was with his family in Osage for a family reunion. Osage mayor and Cedar River Complex board member Steve Cooper says that at about 2:40 PM, two Red Cross certified lifeguards were on duty, an additional certified lifeguard was in the building, and a trained volunteer known as a Red Cross “volunteer guard start” was assisting when they were alerted about the child being in danger. He says the volunteer guard start was alerted by a relative that the victim was in danger, the volunteer guard immediately notified the certified life guards who right away came to the child’s attention, started CPR and contacted emergency personnel. The emergency responders took over the recovery effort, with the child being transported to the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later. Cooper says the CRC staff is working closely with local authorities into the investigation into Detmering’s death, with the pool facility remaining closed until the completion of the investigation. He says there’s a number of different agencies that will have a hand in the investigation, including the medical authorities that will have to do a coroner’s inquiry. State health and human services officials may have to assist in the investigation as well. Cooper says a crisis staff with Mercy Medical Center will be meeting with CRC staff tonight and will help the community cope with the tragedy. He says they’re working with the Mitchell County Regional Health Center and have arranged for a crisis team to be with the CRC staff throughout the week. A community meeting will also be hosted by the crisis team at 7 o’clock Wednesday night in the CRC Auditorium. Cooper says that the CRC staff and board members are heartbroken over the child’s death and express their sympathy to the Detmering family.

UPDATE --- Name of drowning victim released
Breaking News OSAGE --- A two-year-old child is dead after drowning in the swimming pool at the Cedar River Complex in Osage yesterday. Authorities haven't released much information about a drowning at the pool at the Cedar River Complex in Osage. Reports indicate that two-year-old Ryan Detmering of Fort Dodge and his family were in Osage for a family reunion on Sunday when the drowning took place. Ryan was with at least one parent. A statement from the Cedar River Complex says three lifeguards were on duty and emergency officials were notified immediately. The statement also says the pool is closed until authorities have completed their investigation. More information is expected to be released later this afternoon.
