Mohawks fall to Dowling
Breaking News DES MOINES --- The Mason City High girls came back from 11 points down in the second quarter to lead by seven halfway through the third quarter, but Dowling came back to beat the Mohawks 50-43 in a Class 5A state semifinal as you heard on AM-1300 KGLO this afternoon. Dowling was 17-of-22 from the free throw line in the second half of play, ending up 22-of-27 from the line in the contest. Becca Hittner drained all nine of her free throw attempts to end up with 17 points to lead three Maroon players in double-figure scoring. Jadda Buckley had 23 of the Mohawks 43 points and was the only Mason City player to score in double figures. Myah Mellman, who led the Mohawks in their state quarterfinal win over Iowa City West, was held to one point as she went 0-7 from the field. Mason City ends their season with a 21-4 record, while Dowling will face Southeast Polk in the 5A championship game tomorrow night as they edged Ankeny 40-38 in today’s other semifinal game.
