Power outage impacts portions of Mason City, lightning possible cause
Breaking News MASON CITY --- About 33-hundred Alliant Energy customers in Mason City were impacted this morning by a power outage. Alliant spokesman Ryan Stensland tells KGLO News that at about 6:50 this morning a transformer at their 5th and Delaware substation was not working. Alliant crews report that it is possible that it was struck by lightning, and they are continuing to investigate the situation. Stensland says they were about to get about 18-hundred customers back online at about 7:15 this morning, and they are hoping to get the rest of the customers impacted by the outage back online within the next hour. Stensland says the downtown area, places along South Federal Avenue, and the northwestern portion of town still could be impacted by the outage.
