MASON CITY — Four area players were selected to all-state girls basketball teams that were released Thursday by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association:

== Megan Meyer of Mason City was selected to the Class 4A first team. The junior averaged just over 25 points per game, had a single-season school record of 71 three-pointers, as well as had 81 steals and 72 assists.

== Sara Faber of Clear Lake was selected to the Class 3A second team. The sophomore led the Lions averaging 16.7 points per game and also had team highs in rebounds, assists and steals.

== Kaylee Parks of Central Springs was selected to the Class 2A third team. The junior was second in Class 2A in scoring with 23.3 points per game.

== Rachel Leerar of West Hancock landed on the Class 1A second team. The freshman led the Eagles with just under 20 points per game with 88 steals, 74 assists and 62 rebounds.

CEDAR RAPIDS — The NIACC women play tomorrow in the Region XI semifinals in Cedar Rapids. The Lady Trojans are the second seed in the tournament and will face the third seed Iowa Central. NIACC is 24-6 and finished 11-3 in the conference, while Iowa Central is 16-14 and finished 8-6 in conference play. NIACC took both games during the regular season, winning 76-67 in Mason City on January 20th and 93-73 in Fort Dodge on February 17th. You can hear the NIACC-Iowa Central game on AM-1300 KGLO Saturday afternoon starting at about 3 o’clock. In the other semifinal, top seed Kirkwood faces Southeastern at 1 o’clock, with both semifinal games being played at Kirkwood Community College. The winners will play in the Region XI championship game on Sunday afternoon in Cedar Rapids at 1 o’clock, a game if NIACC is playing in will be heard as well on KGLO starting with the pre-game at about 12:45.

 

 

CEDAR RAPIDS — The Region XI Division II men’s basketball championship game has been set after the semifinal round last night. 5th-seed Iowa Central knocked off top-seed Kirkwood 75-74 in Cedar Rapids, while the third-seed Southwestern beat second-seed Iowa Lakes 102-93. Saturday’s championship game between Iowa Central and Southwestern will be played in Creston.

 

 

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Kyrie Irving returned from a one-game absence to help Boston fend off Minnesota, putting up 23 points, seven rebounds and eight assists to pace the Celtics in a 117-109 win over the Timberwolves. Al Horford added 20 points, eight rebounds, six assists and tough defense on Karl-Anthony Towns for the Celtics, who stayed two games behind Toronto in the Eastern Conference race with their sixth win in the last seven games. Nemanja Bjelica scored a career-high 30 points for the Timberwolves.

 

 

UNDATED (AP) — Derrick Rose has signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the remainder of the season. The move reunites Rose and Timberwolves coach Tom Thibodeau, who were together in Chicago. Rose appeared in only 16 games for Cleveland earlier this season, before being traded to Utah and then let go. He says he’s eager for the opportunity, unconcerned about his role.
